WINDSWEPT
Our site can be windy; very windy at times. And when it blows there seems to be no end to the detritus that flies across our landscape from “whence it came, to rest once more”.
Our visitors include nature’s surplus – leaves, branches, and feathers for instance; as well as the cast-offs from human endeavour – plastic sheet, bailing twine, and nowadays the fast food waste from the highway’s travellers.
Naturally what the wind bringeth, the wind can take away, but in this tribute to the Tempest we depict an item that’s anchored itself in a wraparound kind of way.
The work is made of steel, beaten into shape by many hands over many months as the video shows, and then smoothed into its final form courtesy of a fibreglass finish. The colouring ensures the movement of the sun during the day brings with it a different visual impact.
The piece was an international effort, with the steel shaping done in China, the finishing done by the Carboglass experts in Seaview while as usual Steam and Sand of Porirua coloured it perfectly. Thanks team.
