MORPHEUS
Phil Price
Phil Price is celebrated as New Zealand’s leading exponent of wind-activated kinetic sculptures. His works appear throughout Australasia and Europe.
Given our site is situated in a valley that funnels the wind from western coast north of Wellington sending it south toward the city, it seemed ideal to have one of Phil’s graceful demonstrations of Nature’s force adorn our property. His Morpheus (dreams of forms ever-changing) was seen as most suitable.
Because the site is over 400m from where it’s to be primarily viewed from (the ampitheatre) we decided to simplify the design to just 3 teardrops, well down from the 7 or more that typically have been used for smaller versions of this work. That has worked well and the beauty of the movement can be appreciated in the strongest winds from all around our site.
