DINING WITH THE BIRDS

Our project is about creating a destination for people to enjoy visual and performing arts as well as outdoor recreation (walking, cycling, golf) within a landscape encompassing a working farm, a wildlife sanctuary and extensive plantings of native trees. We think of it as a microcosm of the lifestyle New Zealanders love.

Our sculpture trail wouldn’t be uniquely New Zealand if it didn’t pay tribute to the birds that live (or have lived) in our forests. We commissioned artists Gillie and Marc to create this sculpture, our toughest task was deciding which ten birds to include - we were limited by the size of the table! Of course we have had to leave out many of our special varieties - maybe a second table is in order. The work presents our selection congregating here for a feed and a natter – and inviting you to join them.

‘Dining with the Birds’ allows you to do just that with some of our most iconic species, while their family members fly over and around you.
