BALLOON ON A ROPE

(page still under development)

This is an amalgam of two sculptures. The first was the wave fence designed to contrast with the curvature of the earthern ampitheatre that sits directly behind it. The beauty of this rope-long structure is that it is transparent and then it’s not and then it is again and so on. Depending where you view it from as you come down one of the fairways of the golf course the fence provides very much a unique perspective of the background to its west.

And then we were privileged to secure the marquette of Sculptor Seung Yul Oh's work, Kimi / You Are Here which is installed in Waitangi Park, Wellington City. As we looked for a site to place it on our property it seemed well suited to sitting atop our wave fence. The combined sculpture was then interpreted as a balloon fighting to ascend as our prevailing wind seeks to send it south. But tethered firmly by its steel “rope” there is no change of escape.

Balloon on a Rope is born.
